New Videos

OLD UGLY has finally started embracing the future with these here moving pictures we’ve been putting out so many of lately! We hope you enjoy these two incredible new videos for Jom Comyn’s “Hatchet In Garage” (produced by Mike Robertson for Highwire Films) and Doug Hoyer’s “Oh, The Wind Will Blow” (produced by Dylan Howard). Enjoy below!

In other news, OLD UGLY’s Tyler Butler has landed a record deal with Yer Bird Records, who will be re-releasing his Winter King record very shortly. This rerelease is also accompanied by a great deal of moving pictures by the aforementioned Dylan Howard. Check out the Yer Bird page here and the specialized winterking.ca page where they are one by one posting a takeaway show styled video for each song on the record.

The OLD UGLY Rap Video Trilogy

Mitchmatic’s new record is finally out. These are songs he’s been working on incessantly for the last two or three years. I can’t wait to see what he comes out with now. This could be the beginning of a long out pouring of quality Mitch Holtby raps. The other great thing about “It’s Probably Raining” finally being released is that the Mike Robertson produced music video was released alongside the record, thus completing the OLD UGLY RAPZ/HIGHWIRE FILMS music video trilogy featuring the lovely Joleen Ballendine. Her character doesn’t change throughout my (The Joe) video for You’re Cool, Mikey Maybe’s video for Hush, and Mitchmatic’s video for “Why Don’t You Know.” It is one and the same person. We didn’t realize this as we were at first creating it but Mike or Mikey pointed it out (can’t remember) while we were filming for his video and the observation has proven true. So enjoy in sequence our Edmonton rap video trilogy (and Mitchmatic’s new record, streaming below):

Two New Records Coming Soon

We have three big shows coming up, two of which are CD Releases! The long awaited follow up to Mitchmatic‘s Two Weeks Off is finally arriving on February 3rd—”It’s Probably Raining.” And Phil Holtby, the master mind behind the psych folk creations of DoT has spent the last six months perfecting his neo-grunge sound with his 90′s rock incarnation, Catgut. His new live-off-the-floor full length recording, “Goosegg Smooshkeg” is dropping on the 22nd of January! And in other news, Dylan Khotin-Foote, once an OLD UGLIAN under the instrumental project Kumon Plaza, has returned from his European tour with Foxes In Fiction, performing as Happy Trendy. This return marks his 18th birthday and we are celebrating with his first Wunderbar show! This day has been a long time coming!! Click on the poster images for the facebook events with all the details.

ANOTHER OLD UGLY CHRISTMAS

OLD UGLY has gathered it’s wherewithal along with a dozen of our talented extended family and friends to create a massive Christmas record for all of you. We hope it finds you in tremendous cheer, and if Christmas isn’t your thing, hopefully this can carry you through in one piece! Enjoy, darlings! Drink it back!

December at OU

We have three huge shows this month! One of which is a CD release for GHIBLI’s brand new Snowclone EP and another which acts as the release party for ANOTHER OU CHRISTMAS, an album featuring most every OLD UGLIAN and a ton of extended family!! Both those records will be available on bandcamp the day after the show. The shows this month are few but concentrated in their glory. Click the poster image to link to the facebook events where more information will be available for you thirsty little goonies. P.S. Old Ugly put out 14 albums in the year 2011. Holler.

Announcements!

We have two tremendous EP’s dropping in the next three weeks! November 30th will see Caity Fisher’s rock and roll debut, recorded live and mixed by Jom Comyn himself, titled Caity Fisher and The Final Frontier—a band consisting of OLD UGLIANS Caity, Jim (Jom Comyn), and Phil (DoT)! A couple weeks later, the ever evolving Thomas Michael aka Tom Mike aka Jaded Hipster Choir aka GHIBLI is dropping a new EP in what will result in a magnificent flurry of limbs at our huge dance party on December 17th. His new music is decidedly oriented for the dance floor so look forward to glorious sweat the smell of a billion roses, potpourri! And allow me to finish by saying that OLD UGLY extended family member HAPPY TRENDY has released his new Die Young EP this very day. It has appeared in anticipation of a European and American tour opening for Foxes In Fiction. See below.

November for the Unattractive Elderly

HERE lay our shows for November. Carve them into your palm! They are all going to rule. They are all at Wunderbar. But before I tell you what’s what, let me share with you a video that a French gentlemen took it upon himself to make for our own Sugarglider‘s hit single Nobody (available here)!

AND HERE’S OUR NOVEMBER SHOWS!

________________________________________

13th: The Paint Movement (Toronto) / Doug Hoyer / Jessica Jalbert

The Paint Movement have put out one of my very favourite records of 2011. I play it on my show, The Ongoing Argument, on CJSR (where I first discovered the record) more often than absolutely anything else. So I had to holler at them and see if they could come play Wunderbar with some of our own. And who better than Doug and Jess, pop royalty in this town, who both have new records making maaaajor waaaaaves.

Facebook Event

16th: Sheree Plett (Vancouver) / Tyler Butler / Jordan Norman / James Rockliff

Sheree Plett has been grinding for years. Her and her husband, Eisenhauer, have toured through Edmonton so many times I have lost count. They always put on a gorgeous show. This will be her Edmonton release of her brand new “Hello Night” record. Don’t miss it.

Facebook Event

20th: The Geese (Vancouver) / Zerbin / Ben Gorodetsky / Dylan Howard

The Geese do something very magical on their recordings, tightrope walking between a generous levity and a pensive depth. It is altogether admirable. Expect a heart lifting evening of wistful sing songs.

Facebook Event

30th: Caity Fisher & The Final Frontier (Album Launch) / Diehatzu Hijets / Sir Ma’am Ma’am

Caity Fisher is nothing short of a genius. As much as these new rock and roll songs of hers trade in the porch rocking lull of her Only The Wind recordings, the country breeze has not escaped these new jawns. Come enjoy it with a healthy heaping hand full of rock and RULE by our own Diehatzu Hijets and Jason Dublanko’s new Sir Ma’am Ma’am jammers.

Facebook Event

1st: MAPLE SIZZURP RAP FEST featuring Ghettosocks (Halifax) / Thesis Sahib (London) / Muneshine (Toronto) / Jeff Spec (Vancouver) / Timbuktu (London) / The Joe / Mitchmatic

Five of the coolest rappers in Canada are going to be in one room with your own OLD UGLY representative, The Joe and Mitchmatic. If you like rap music that doesn’t make you feel like a prick, you’ll love the MAPLE SIZZURP RAP FEST, brought to you in conjunction with Mattie Cuvilier’s own Clean-Up Yr Act Productions!

New Mikey Maybe Video, Teddy Going Away Show

It is time we announce Mikey Maybe‘s February 3rd debut full length, Ladies Night! And what better way to build hype than a Halloween music video by Highwire Film’s Mike Robertson himself. Hush:

And while we have you, may we mention that Sunday October 30th’s show will be no small occasion, TEDDY HOLTBY will be moving back to Brooklyn but not without delivering a one hour mega show involving four distinct phases and featuring help from a dozen old uglians. This show will also see the live debut of his newest rock and roll material. Joining him are OLD UGLY powerplants Liam Trimble, Sugarglider, and Catgut. More details here.

AND LASTLY, Jessica Jalbert‘s album release was a smash success. If you missed it, catch her on Thursday November 3rd at the ARTery with Born Gold or Sunday November 13th at Wunderbar with Nevado Records’ The Paint Movement and alongside our own Doug Hoyer. Or just buy it from Blackbyrd, Permanent, or her bandcamp.
